Home-stay service - a new experience for tourists

Holiday-makers will have a chance to experience the daily life of local people in My Son village, Duy Phu commune, Duy Xuyen district, central Quang Nam province through a new community tourism model.

My Son Community-based Tourism Village is being jointly launched by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Quang Nam Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

The village, home to 237 families, is located close to the World Cultural Heritage Site of My Son.

With 40 households taking part, the home-stay service is expected to open a new channel for sustainable tourism development in the heritage site.

To ensure the effectiveness of the model, local people have been taught basic English and given lessons in first aid and environmental protection.

The village has benefited from the “Strengthening of Inland Tourism in Quang Nam ” project funded by the Luxembourg Government, said ILO representative Charles Bodwell.

He noted that My Son has a lot of potential for tourism development that has yet to be tapped.

The model is expected to help improve local residents’ income and popularise My Son Heritage Site to domestic and foreign visitors.
